Two Days at Disneyland with Kids Under 5
Our January 2027 itinerary for a preschooler and a baby.
Ground Rules
- Eat breakfast and have coffee before security. Skip the Main Street Starbucks line.
- Prioritize rides from 8:00 to 11:30 AM, before the longer afternoon lines.
- Take a midday hotel or stroller nap break.

Heights, Tickets, and Passes
- 35 inches: Chip 'n' Dale's GADGETcoaster
- 38 inches: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
- 40 inches: Star Tours, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
A baby can ride attractions with no height requirement, on a lap or in a seat at the Cast Member's discretion.
Everyone 3 and up needs a ticket and a park reservation. Children under 3 need neither. Using Lightning Lane in both parks on the same day requires a Park Hopper ticket.
Hotel early entry ended in January 2026. Disney hotel guests now get one entry to one eligible Multi Pass attraction per stay, so save it for a ride that's hard to book. Rise of the Resistance and Radiator Springs Racers aren't covered. Buy Multi Pass in the app for the rest.

Day 1: Disneyland Park
7:00 AM: Arrive one hour early
Get to the resort, clear bag check, scan in, and head up Main Street to the Fantasyland rope. Have the stroller ready, the app open, everyone's tickets and park reservations linked in one account, and Multi Pass bought in advance.
Place your lunch mobile order early in the morning and select your preferred arrival window.
8:00 AM: Rope drop and your first booking
The moment you scan in, book Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. Check the app's next eligible booking time and set a reminder. If your return is later, stack Roger Rabbit alongside it while you ride in Fantasyland.
Start with Peter Pan's Flight only if it's a top priority. It has no Lightning Lane, and later waits are often 45 to 60 minutes or more. Otherwise, start with the other Fantasyland dark rides.
The Fantasyland dark rides are standby-only, have no height minimum, and build lines fast.
8:15 to 9:45 AM: Fantasyland dark rides
- Peter Pan's Flight, if you chose to start there.
- Alice in Wonderland. Part of the track runs outdoors on a balcony, and the ride closes in rain.
- Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. It's short and loud, and it ends in a fiery underworld scene. Fine for many 4-year-olds.
- Snow White's Enchanted Wish. There's a brief witch scene, but it's gentler than the old version.
- Pinocchio's Daring Journey. It has a couple of dark moments, at Pleasure Island and with Monstro.
If lines are short, add Dumbo, King Arthur Carrousel, Casey Jr., and Storybook Land Canal Boats.
When your next booking opens, add Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin. Aim for a return window close to Runaway Railway's so you can ride both during your Toontown visit. It has no height requirement, and a baby can ride on a lap at the Cast Member's discretion. If you'd rather not spin the baby, use Rider Switch: one adult rides with your preschooler, then the other adult rides with them again.

10:00 to 11:30 AM: Toontown
- Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway: any height, the whole family rides.
- Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin: any height (see the Rider Switch note above).
- Chip 'n' Dale's GADGETcoaster: 35 inches, standby only (not on Multi Pass). Use Rider Switch so your preschooler rides if tall enough while one adult stays with the baby. It's short and zippy.
- Mickey's House and Meet Mickey: walk through, then meet Mickey for a photo and autograph. Lines build mid-morning.
- Minnie's House: a self-guided walk-through with gags in every room. Disney doesn't list a Minnie meet officially, so check the app for character times.
- Play areas: CenTOONial Park (water tables and climbable tree roots), Donald's Duck Pond, and Goofy's How-To-Play Yard.
- Café Daisy for a snack and a bottle.
When the app shows you're eligible again, book Buzz Lightyear, or Star Tours if your child is 40 inches or taller.
11:30 AM to 12:45 PM: Tomorrowland
- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters: any height. Riders shoot at targets with their own blasters.
- Star Tours: 40 inches. If your child is shorter, use Rider Switch so both adults ride.
- Space Mountain: 40 inches. Rider Switch for the adults. While they swap, the adult who isn't riding can take the kids to the Pixar short film showing at the Tomorrowland Theater for a sit-down break.
- Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage: any height. Strollers can't go down the hatch, so park outside.
- Astro Orbitor: any height, standby.
- Autopia: it may be closed. Disney has to retire the ride's gas cars or close it by February 1, 2027. Check the app.
Before you leave Tomorrowland, check when you can book again. Haunted Mansion or "it's a small world" is a good next pick.

12:45 to 3:00 PM: Lunch and a nap break
The best option is a hotel nap: exit through Main Street and come back at 3 PM. Book your next Lightning Lane from the hotel when your 2-hour timer ends.
- A full loop on the Disneyland Railroad, 20 to 30 minutes
- The Mark Twain Riverboat
- The Enchanted Tiki Room
- Shady benches by the Rivers of America
- The Baby Care Center on Main Street, next to First Aid: a nursing room, changing tables, and a kitchen with a microwave
Plaza Inn (fried chicken, easy stroller access) and Red Rose Taverne in Fantasyland both work.
3:00 to 6:00 PM: Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Frontierland, and Bayou Country
- Haunted Mansion: any height. After its holiday run, the ride closes for several days to remove the overlay.
- Pirates of the Caribbean: any height, standby only (not on Multi Pass). Ride it while waiting for your Haunted Mansion Lightning Lane return window.
- Jungle Cruise: any height, standby only (not on Multi Pass). A good fit for a 4-year-old.
- Tiana's Bayou Adventure: 40 inches, with a big drop, and you get wet. Rider Switch for the adults.
- Big Thunder Mountain: 40 inches. Rider Switch, or your child rides if tall enough.
- Indiana Jones Adventure: 46 inches. Rider Switch, adults only. It closed for refurbishment in September 2026, so confirm it has reopened.
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: any height, standby. Gentle, and a good fit for a preschooler.
- Enchanted Tiki Room: a sit-down rest in air conditioning or heat, with a Dole Whip from Tropical Hideaway (mobile order).
6:00 to 7:30 PM: Dinner and "it's a small world"
"it's a small world" has no height requirement. Its Christmas overlay often stays up into late January, after Haunted Mansion's comes down. The ride then closes for several days to remove it.
Eat nearby at Hungry Bear, Galactic Grill, or Plaza Inn, then change diapers and add layers if the evening turns chilly.

Evening: Fireworks
Holiday fireworks end January 6. "Remember… Dreams Come True" returns in February 2027 on select evenings. Disney hasn't posted a regular nighttime show schedule for the weeks in between, so check the app for your date before you plan the evening.
- The plaza in front of "it's a small world" is stroller-friendly, with projections on the facade and more room.
- Town Square, near the train station, is stroller-friendly with an easy exit.
- The Main Street curb near the hub has the best view, but it's packed and hard with a stroller.
Bring ear protection for the baby. We'd choose fireworks over Fantasmic with kids this young; add Fantasmic only if the schedules allow.
After the show, wait 15 minutes, then roll out.
What we'd skip on Day 1
- Peter Pan after 9 AM. If you skip it at rope drop, let it go.
- Rise of the Resistance Single Pass, unless your child is 40 inches or taller. With Rider Switch, the adults still wait a long time.
- Main Street right after the fireworks.
- The Matterhorn (42 inches), unless the adults really want it. The right side is better, but it's rough, and Rider Switch takes time.
- Mr. Toad, Snow White, and Pinocchio if your child scares easily. Skip those and keep Alice and Peter Pan.

Day 2: Disney California Adventure
Arrive one hour early
Have breakfast and coffee before security. Place your lunch mobile order early in the morning and select your preferred arrival window.
8:00 AM: Radiator Springs Racers Single Pass and your first Multi Pass
At entry, buy the Radiator Springs Racers Single Pass for the earliest available return. It costs extra, with prices varying by date, isn't part of Multi Pass, and can sell out. Then make your first Multi Pass booking. Racers has a 40-inch minimum; use Rider Switch if your child is shorter.
At rope drop, whoever wants to ride Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! should head there first, because its line stays long all day. It also has a 40-inch minimum. Use Rider Switch if your child is too short or would rather skip it.
Next, check the wait time for WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure. It has no height requirement, so the whole family can ride. If the kids don't want to ride, the adults can use the Single Rider line, which is usually much faster. WEB SLINGERS also has Lightning Lane, so you can book it later after Radiator Springs Racers.
Break: Redwood Creek Challenge Trail
This play area in Grizzly Peak, near Grizzly River Run, has rope bridges, climbing nets, slides, and trails.

Late morning: Pixar Pier
- Toy Story Midway Mania!: no height requirement. It suits this age, and it has Lightning Lane.
- Jessie's Critter Carousel: no height requirement, usually a short wait.
- Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind: no height requirement, a gentle spinner.
- Pixar Pal-A-Round (the Fun Wheel): ask for a non-swinging gondola with the kids, and check the ride's rules in the app.
- Incredicoaster: 48 inches. This one is for the adults, with Rider Switch. Stack its Lightning Lane with Toy Story Midway Mania! to keep both rides in one Pixar Pier stop.
If everyone's hungry, quick-service spots along Pixar Pier and in the Pacific Wharf area mean you won't have to leave to eat.
Midday and afternoon
Stop at the smaller rides and attractions as you go, such as The Little Mermaid. Use the indoor breaks in the Animation Building (Animation Academy and Turtle Talk with Crush & Finding Dory Pals) and Mickey's PhilharMagic. Take the same midday hotel or nap break as on Day 1 if the kids need it.
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! has no height requirement and is a good fit for a preschooler. It may close for good in 2027, so check the app. Book your next Lightning Lane as each one opens up.
Evening: World of Color
An updated version of the original World of Color is set to return in February 2027. When the show is running, a World of Color dining package reserves a viewing spot, and the Storytellers Cafe version is a character buffet. Bring ear protection for the baby.

Lightning Lane Booking Order
How to stack Lightning Lanes
Stacking means holding more than one future Lightning Lane reservation. Match return windows for nearby rides so you visit that area once.
Your next booking unlocks after you redeem your current selection or 2 hours after booking it, whichever comes first. The app shows when you're eligible. If those 2 hours pass before your ride window, keep that reservation and add another. Ride standby attractions, eat, or take your hotel break while you wait.
For example, if these windows are available:
Toontown: Runaway Railway + Roger Rabbit
- 8:00 AM: Book Runaway Railway for 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
- 10:00 AM: Keep that booking and reserve Roger Rabbit for 11:00 AM to noon.
- 10:30 AM: Ride Runaway Railway, then Roger Rabbit after 11:00 AM.
Pixar Pier: Toy Story Midway Mania! + Incredicoaster
- 9:00 AM: Book Toy Story Midway Mania! for 2:00 to 3:00 PM.
- 11:00 AM: Keep that booking and reserve Incredicoaster for the adults for 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
- 2:30 PM: Ride Toy Story together, then Incredicoaster after 3:00 PM with Rider Switch.
The app offers the next available window. Modify an existing selection if another available time fits better, and leave room for Lightning Lane queues and Rider Switch.
Day 1: Disneyland
- Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway (whole family)
- Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin (whole family)
- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (whole family)
- Space Mountain (Rider Switch, 40 inches)
- Haunted Mansion (whole family)
- Big Thunder Mountain (Rider Switch, 40 inches)
- Tiana's Bayou Adventure (Rider Switch, 40 inches)
- "it's a small world" (whole family, an easy evening pick)
- If there's time: Indiana Jones Adventure (Rider Switch, 46 inches) or Star Tours (40 inches)
If your child is 40 inches or taller, move Star Tours, Big Thunder, and Tiana's up so they can ride with an adult.
Day 2: California Adventure
- WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure (whole family)
- Toy Story Midway Mania! (whole family, fills up fast)
- Soarin' Across America (Rider Switch, 40 inches)
- Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! (whole family)
- The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure (whole family)
- If there's time: Incredicoaster (Rider Switch, 48 inches) or Grizzly River Run (Rider Switch, 42 inches)
Buy the Radiator Springs Racers Single Pass at entry. It's separate from Multi Pass. Ride Guardians at rope drop in standby. If you skip it, add it to the Multi Pass list after WEB SLINGERS.
Multi Pass includes unlimited PhotoPass downloads for that day.
How Rider Switch Works
- Bring the whole family to the ride entrance and ask the Cast Member for Rider Switch.
- The first adult waits in the regular line (standby or Lightning Lane) and rides.
- The second adult waits with the kids nearby. Take a snack break, or do something close by, like the Pixar short film at the Tomorrowland Theater.
- When the first adult is done, the second adult returns through the Lightning Lane entrance with the Rider Switch access and rides without the full wait. Cast Members usually let up to 2 people from the waiting group ride on the switch, so the second adult can bring your preschooler along on rides they're tall enough for. That gives them a free second ride.
Rider Switch is free. Ask the Cast Member how long your return is valid and whether it works with your Lightning Lane.
Rides and Attractions with Little to No Wait
Disneyland
- Pinocchio's Daring Journey
- Casey Jr. Circus Train (fastest when two trains are running)
- The Pixar short film showing at the Tomorrowland Theater. It pairs well with a Space Mountain Rider Switch.
- Enchanted Tiki Room
- Adventureland Treehouse (the former Swiss Family Robinson treehouse), between Pirates and Indiana Jones
- Tom Sawyer Island (Pirate's Lair), good for exploring.
- Mark Twain Riverboat or Sailing Ship Columbia around the Rivers of America
- Disneyland Railroad. Park the stroller at one station, ride the full loop, and get 20 to 30 minutes of rest.
- Main Street Cinema (classic Mickey and Minnie shorts)
- Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
- The Walt Disney Story. The video at the start is long, so it may not hold little ones' attention, but it's a low-wait indoor stop.
California Adventure
- Animation Academy (a drawing class) and Turtle Talk with Crush & Finding Dory Pals, both in the Animation Building. Great indoor breaks.
- Mickey's PhilharMagic, across the way
- Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, usually a 10 to 15 minute wait when both sides are running
- The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure, a fast loader. It also has Lightning Lane if you want to use it there.
Baby Care Centers
At Disneyland, the Baby Care Center is at the end of Main Street, next to First Aid. At California Adventure, it's in San Fransokyo Square, next to Ghirardelli.
